Sometimes getting there IS the battle.
Our newest ministry is a free transit service. Clients are referred by local community and social service agencies. With 24 hours’ notice we can provide transportation to job interviews, medical care, referrals to other agencies, required classes etc.
When times are tough, one of the hardest things is to get to places that can help. Public transportation isn’t always an option. Many can fall through the cracks just because they can’t get a ride. Through this simple low budget ministry we are able to help those in need and continue to serve the community one individual at a time.
Every ride is a story. The drivers understand that, and they make the effort to connect with the riders, offering encouragement and praying with them if they so desire.
- In April we were able to transport a gentleman to Hillsborough County to finish chemotherapy appointments. He and his wife bonded with the driver and at the end of the therapy they expressed how truly grateful they were for this service.
- Joining Hands was also able to take a young girl to Shriners Hospital to be fitted for leg braces. A few weeks later she was returned by the Joining Hands van to receive the braces. Mission accomplished!
We do more than drive; we build relationships and offer hope and assistance through additional agency referrals. Although this service is free, donations to offset the expense are welcome.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalms 121:8)
